Indo-Canadian Author Jess Singh Receives Award From Surrey Eagles Hockey Team In Punjabi Singer Jazzy B’s Presence

The pen is mightier than the sword, they say. The kind of journey Jess Singh has had clearly proves that. After being a successful journalist and blogger for years, Jess released her debut novel ‘All That She Wanted Was’ recently. In a very short span of time, it became a best-selling novel and readers are now keenly awaiting to read the next story that emerges out of Jess’ imagination. Recently, Jess was given an award by the Surrey Eagles Hockey Team. She received the award in the event which was also graced by the presence of popular Punjabi singer Jazzy B.

Sharing her feelings on getting this award, Jess says, “It feels great when your work is acknowledged and appreciated by experts. Receiving this award is a huge honour for me and it will encourage me to work harder towards achieving my goals and weaving stories that leave a lasting impact on the reader’s mind. I have been a huge fan of Mr Jazzy B from his Folk ‘N’ Funky days and it was wonderful getting the opportunity to interact with him during this event as well.”

While Jess has been expressing her thoughts and writing about a plethora of subjects as a writer and journalist for years, ‘All That She Wanted Was’ marked her debut as an author. She wrote the book during the Covid-19 situation when the entire world was under lockdown and she, like everybody else, was dealing with loneliness and anxiety. The book traces the journey of a young woman named Tara who is in search of true love.

“After I decided to write this book, it actually led to a couple of false starts when I would sit down in front of my laptop but wouldn’t be able to write a word. We hadn’t seen a pandemic of this kind in ages and it led me to feeling very isolated and depressed. However, after a while, I picked myself up and made it a point to write the book in a disciplined manner and finish it before the deadline I had in my mind. Writing ‘All That She Wanted Was’ was one of the most enriching experiences of my life”, says Jess.

After the success of her debut novel, Jess is gearing up to write the second one. While she has a couple of ideas in her mind, she hasn’t yet decided the subject of her next novel. What she is sure about is the fact that it would be something that would be very different from her debut novel and would surprise her readers in a good way. In the near future, Jess plans to expand her horizons as a writer and write screenplays for films and shows as well.
